Santa Barbara, Barbara, Marche
Santa Barbara is a house located in the small village of Barbara, just
west of the city of Ancona in the region of Marche. The owner, Stefano
Antonucci, left his life as a successful banker to pursue his desire to
make wine in the tranquil hills of the nearly untouched Marche. The
winery has vineyards on land in which it owns as well as rents within the
Verdicchio di Castelli di Jesi D.O.C. zone. The winery also purchases
a portion of grapes personally chosen by Stefano himself. The vineyards
the winery is working with are of varietals native to the region, such
as Verdicchio, Montepulciano and Moscato Bianco and Rosso as well as French
varietals like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chardonnay.
Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi, D.O.C.
100% Verdicchio grape. The vineyard lies just to the west of the castle of
Barbara. This area is located within the Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi
D.O.C. zone in the region of Marche. The grapes at harvest undergo a
soft pressing, ensuring that only the finest of the must is drawn off.
Fermentation is carefully controlled, giving this cru its
characteristic rich bouquet. It is left to mature through the winter
then bottled to heighten its distinctive aroma and ensure a beautiful
palate. This dry white is rich in the nose and round on the palate, with
a delicate straw yellow color.
Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Le Vaglie, D.O.C.
100% Verdicchio grape. This wine, another in an outstanding series of
Verdicchio wines from Stefano Antonucci, comes from a vineyard site of
the same name. Le Vaglie, a silver medal winner at the 2000
International Wine Challenge, comes from soft pressed grapes with the
must fermented in stainless steel and then aged in an assortment of
wooden barrels until spring. Refined in the bottle, this aging gives
the wine great structure as well as elegance. The wine has a bright
pale-greenish yellow color with a slight tinge of gold. The nose is
spicy with minerals and ripe fruits. The palate is ample and round
yet subtle.
Verdicchio Stefano Antonucci, D.O.C.
100% Verdicchio grape. Each wine that comes out of traditional lines
begins from an idea that was born a little bit by chance and a little
bit for bet. Bacco Imports has always had the conviction that the
Verdicchio was one of the few white wines which can be exalted whether
in the fermentation or in wood refining. The white wine Stefano Antonucci
was born from the use of different woods, a wine that exalts the
features of our prestigious Marchigiana land!
Rosso Piceno D.O.C.
60% Montapulciano and 40% Sangiovese grapes. This dry red wine has an
alcohol strength of 12%. It is ruby red in color and unmistakably vinous
on the nose. The Rosso Piceno also has a distinctly dry flavor while
remaining well balanced.
Marche Rosso Pignocco cru d'annata, I.G.T.
This is a cru vineyard site, which gets the name Pignocco from a tree
known in local folklore. A distinctive blend of Moscato Rosso, Lacrima,
Cabernet and Montepulciano grapes. This red blend, like its white sister
of Verdicchio comes from the locally famous Pignocco cru area, outside
of Santa Barbara. The wine has been aged in the finest of oak throughout
the winter to heighten and enrich its natural bouquet with a nicely
balanced aroma of wood. It has a ruby red color and is a delight with a
variety of foods.
Marche Rosso Vigna San Bartolo, I.G.T.
Assemblage of Montepulciano and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. This is an
ancient estate that belonged to Stefano's father, Nicola. It is in the
San Bartola area, which is very well suited to the Montepulciano that
is native here, as well as the noble Cabernet Sauvignon. This dry red
is aged in oak for two years before bottling. The wine has a gorgeous
garnet red color with a delicate bouquet of berry fruit. The palate is
round and harmonious, a wine of versatility, suitable both for every
day or to accompany richer cuisine.
Marche Rosso Stefano Antonucci, I.G.T.
Assemblage of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. This is a tightly
woven dry red that shows extremely well. Stefano has had a dream of
producing a great Bordeaux style of wine for many years and has done
so with this wine. It is very dark in color, the aromas merit serious
attention, and the palate is full with great development potential in
the upcoming years. Truly a delicious wine.
Pathos, I.G.T.
33% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, and 33% Syrah grapes. This dry red
comes from relatively new vines and undergoes a 10-12 day vinification
in stainless steel vats at a temperature of 26-28°C, with a 15 day
maceration period followed by complete malolactic fermentation. To
the eye, the wine is an intense ruby red and on the nose: grand
fragrances of fruits of the forest! In the mouth, a fruit forward
presence is clear, with an aftertaste of blackberry and raspberry.
Best serve with game, Lamb and quality cheeses.
Rosso Piceno Maschio da Monte, D.O.C.
100% Montepulciano grape. The vineyard where the grapes of this wine
are grown is in the village of Barbara, 240 meters above sea level.
The Mashio da Monte spends 18 months in barrique and has an alcohol
strength of 14%. It is an intense red in color with the remarkable
bouquet of Marasca cherry. Decanting at the moment of imbibition
enhances the incredible aroma of Maschio, and leaves the
consumer with a long and full fruit aftertaste.
